Assam Arogya Nidhi
Assam Arogya Nidhi (AAN) is a flagship healthcare financial assistance scheme launched by the Government of Assam in 2013. The scheme is designed to provide much-needed financial support for the treatment of serious or life‐threatening illnesses and injuries, especially for families that are economically disadvantaged.
Key Features
Financial Assistance:
Eligible beneficiaries can receive reimbursement for treatment costs up to a maximum of ₹3,00,000. In exceptional cases, benefits may be adjusted based on the nature of the illness and treatment required. The Government of India contributes 50% of the funds approved by the state.
Eligible Conditions:
The scheme covers treatment for critical conditions such as:

- Heart Diseases & Surgeries: Including procedures like pacemaker implantation, angioplasty, CABG, and heart transplants.
- Cancer: Covering chemotherapy, radiation therapy, etc.
- Kidney & Urinary Diseases: Including dialysis, kidney and liver transplants, and related consumables.
- Orthopedic Conditions: Such as joint replacements and spinal surgeries.
- Thalassemia & Bone Marrow Transplants
- AIDS and Chronic Mental Illness (when surgical intervention is required)
- Accidental Injuries: Including those from natural or manmade disasters like road or rail accidents.

Eligibility Criteria:
- The beneficiary must be a permanent resident of Assam.
- The family’s annual income should not exceed ₹ 5,00,000.
- Beneficiaries must seek treatment at government hospitals, government medical colleges, government-aided institutions, or empanelled private hospitals.
- Government employees or pensioners and their family members are not eligible under the scheme.

Application Process:
Applicants are required to fill an offline application form (available in both English and Assamese) and submit it along with essential documents such as:

- Income Certificate (attested by the Revenue Circle Officer)
- Identity and Address Proof (Voter ID, Aadhaar, or Driving License)
- Original bills/receipts and medical documents certified by the treating doctor or hospital
- Bank account details for direct reimbursement
Applications are then scrutinized by a designated Selection Committee before the financial assistance is disbursed via direct bank transfer.
