FAAMCH, Barpeta

Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College (FAAMCH), Barpeta, is the fifth government medical college in Assam, established to provide quality medical education and healthcare services to the people of lower Assam. The construction of the college began in 2008, and the hospital section became operational on February 11, 2011. The academic journey commenced in August 2012 with the admission of the first batch of MBBS students, who were addressed and blessed by the then Hon’ble Health Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Initially, the MBBS course had 100 seats, which has now increased to 125. Additionally, FAAMCH offers postgraduate courses in nine disciplines, including Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anesthesiology, Radiology, Pathology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology. The college also provides paramedical diploma courses with 103 seats, all affiliated with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, Guwahati.

The hospital started with a 500-bed capacity, which has now expanded to 550 beds. It includes 111 ICU beds and 400 beds equipped with oxygen supply. An evening OPD service by senior faculty members has also been introduced for the convenience of patients.

FAAMCH is equipped with state-of-the-art medical infrastructure. Under PM-CARES, the institution received 50 ventilators, a molecular lab in the Microbiology department, and a 1000 LPM Oxygen Generation Plant. This hospital serves the healthcare needs of various districts in lower Assam.

Our faculty members are highly trained and dedicated to both teaching and patient care services. The college library is well-stocked with an extensive collection of books and journals to support medical education and research.

Currently, a new 100-bedded MCH (Maternal & Child Health) building is nearing completion at FAAMCH. Furthermore, under the Assam Healthcare System Strengthening Project, funded by the Japan International Collaborative Agency (JICA), a state-of-the-art super-specialty hospital is being developed at FAAMCH. A JICA team from Japan has already inspected the proposed site. The project is being implemented by the Assam Health Infrastructure Development and Management Society (under the Medical Education and Research Department, Government of Assam).

With continuous improvements and expansions, FAAMCH is committed to delivering high-quality medical education and healthcare services to the people of Assam.
