The Department of ENT (Otorhinolaryngology) in FAAMCH, Barpeta is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of disorders related to the ear, nose, throat, head, and neck. It plays a crucial role in medical education, patient care, and research.
Functions of the ENT Department
1. Patient Care
- OPD (Outpatient Department) Consultations
- Surgeries – Includes tonsillectomy, tympanoplasty, endoscopic sinus surgery, along with high-end airway and otological procedures as routine and cancer surgeries.
- Emergency Services – Foreign body removal, tracheostomy, and other urgent interventions.
- Special Clinics – Vertigo Clinic, Allergy Clinic, etc.
2. Medical Education & Training
- Undergraduate (MBBS) Teaching – Lectures, clinical postings, and practical sessions.
- Postgraduate (MS ENT) Residency Programs – Specialized training for postgraduate students.
- Hands-on Surgical Training and Workshops – Skill enhancement through practical exposure.
3. Research & Academics
- Conducting studies on hearing loss, sinusitis, head-neck cancers, and other ENT-related conditions.
- Organizing conferences and publishing research papers.
4. Audiology & Speech Therapy
- Hearing tests, including Audiometry, BERA, and OAE.
- Speech therapy for patients with voice and swallowing disorders.
